As an Interior Designer I love to find solutions to common problems – and one of the biggest problems many parents come to me with is lack of space! There are so many great ideas for maximising the amount of space that you have – one of them is loft or bunk beds. I’m not talking your run of the mill bunk beds here – they can be the perfect way to add some WOW factor to your child’s room. Even if your children don’t share a room, or if you have one child, bunk beds can be so much fun for sleepovers.
Those of you who follow my Facebook page may have seen this fun ‘theatre’ style bunk bed that I posted about from Elle Decor Magazine. A simple bunk bed has been transformed with some creative paint effects and some old style cinema curtains – perfect for your child’s next big performance!
If you or someone you know love a bit of DIY (or are able to hire someone to execute it for you) a basic bunk bed design can be transformed into a castle bed – fit for your Prince or Princess. Adorn the room with modern and quirky accessories to make sure the overall look doesn’t look too ‘themey’. I love that the plain white bed is highlighted by the dark feature wall – it gives it a more modern, edgy look.
If you’re stuck for space and you need to incorporate a cot and a bed in a room – you can’t go past this space saving concept – a loft bed contructed over the top of a cot! I love the monochomatic colour palette too.
I am an only child and growing up I had a ‘captain’s bed’ which was a bed on top and a wardrobe and desk underneath. Behind the desk was a little nook and I remember spending hours in there playing with my friends – I remember it so fondly, even to this day. So even where two beds aren’t needed, loft beds are a great idea for extra storage – or even a cosy den for your child to play!
